     History of Photography
      Paul Strand

Image result for paul strand photography      Paul Strand was a famous photographer who first discovered his love for art in the early 1900’s. He was born on October 16, 1890, in New York City. In his late teen years, He enrolled at Ethical Culture Fieldston School, and went on to study art and photography. Lewis Hine, a well-respected documentarian during these times, Was his main focus. Strands work was quite intriguing. In 1915 he started working with large format cameras, or “Strait Photography”.

Image result for paul strand photography            He joined Berenice Abbott and started the Photo League in 1936, which was a collaborative group of photographers who’s initial purpose was to raise social awareness of trade union activities and social protests. It was also during this time that he became immensely intrigued in moving pictures, or cinematography. Strand helped start the film company "Frontier Films," and started working on documentaries over the next decade. He was married three different times. His first wife, painter Rebecca Salsbury, was quite popular in Strand’s early work, since she was a head model in  Strand’s oeuvre. Paul Strand was influential photographer and early role model of old school photography.
